Research with Attitude

Conduct your research with attitude of a skeptic. As you examine websites for clues that they’re trustworthy, ask these questions:

·         Who wrote the Web page? If you cant identify the individual or organization responsible for the information, don’t use it.

·         What are the author’s qualifications for writing on the subject?

·         Has the article passes through an editorial process designed to ensure quality and accurancy?

·         What is the website’s purpose? Look for motives-like selling products or winning votes-that could result in biased or incomplete information.

·         Is the information accurate? Is it up to date?

·         Where did the author get this information?

Reflection:

What I think that he is trying to say is that you can do something quick but don’t rush yourself. Like for example in soccer if you’re playing defense and say a player form the opposite team is trying to take the ball from you don’t hurry yourself to pass it to someone else try and probably be quick with your moves and keep the ball away but don’t rush yourself.

Using the Web Wisely

Thanks to the web, information s easy to find. However, it’s also easy to post something online. Anyone can do it. You’ve probably used the Internet to do research for a paper, to help you decide which product to buy, or to form an opinion about current events. Looking up information online is fast and convenient. But when you do online research, it’s important to find sites you can trust.

Many websites claim to have the facts, but are full errors. Others present information in a biased way – they only give on one side of an argument. How can you tell a reliable source from and unreliable one? Also, it is critical that you post online only what which is descent and appropriate, never anything pornographic, vulgar, indecent, and out of taste, untruthful, or obscene. Post those things that will make a good name for you and your organization, that will promote goodwill and be of benefit to the world.

Reflection:

What I think that this guy is saying is that just because you failed at something doesn’t mean you have to blame someone for what you failed on, you just have to improve yourself in what you failed on because it’s you mistake not another person’s.

SQ3R=Survey-Question-Read-Recite-Review

Recite

 At the end of each section, look up from the text and in your own words recite an answer. Be sure to provide examples that support it. Now repeat the question, Read and Recite steps for each section of the chapter. First ask a question for the nest section. Then read to find the answer. Finally, recite the answer in your own words and jot it down. The written questions and answers can help study in the future.

Review

After completing the chapter, review you notes. Identify the main points by looking for the most important idea in each section. Recite, or write, a brief summary of the assignment.

Review you study notes every week to help you remember the information. When it’s time to prepare for your tests, you’ll find you’ve created an invaluable study guide.

Reflection:

What this statement is trying to explain to everybody is that if you are focused on something don’t go any other direction you must go one direction, the direction towards what you are focused on, no distractions whatsoever  That’s how success starts with a focused, steady mind.

SQ3=Survey-Question-Read-Recite-Review

Question

As you survey the text, ask a question for each section. Ask what, why, how, when, who and where questions as they relate to the content. Here’s how you can create questions:

·         Turn the title, headings or subheadings into questions.

·         Rewrite the questions at the end of the chapter or after each subheading on your own words

Write down your questions. Questions help you pay attention, understand the text better and recall the information more easily later on.

Read

Read one section of the chapter at a time, actively looking for an answer to your question for that section. Pay attention to bold and italicized text that authors use to make important points.

Be sure to review everything in section, including tables, graphs and illustrations-these features can communicate and idea more powerfully than written text.
